Description: This is a tag game that can be used in grades K-6. It is an excellent listening game as well. Students not only have to listen carefully to a given command (word) but they also have to react quickly to prevent themselves from being tagged.
Objective: The team of “Crows” or the team of “Cranes” wants to tag members of the opposite team before they enter into their “safe zone”
Equipment: None
Set-Up: A center line and a “Safe zone” on each end of the gym (marked off by cones or you can use the area behind the “baseline” on a basketball court
Rules:
1) The class is divided into two teams….one named the “Crows” and the other, the “Cranes”
2) The “crows” will be on one side of the gym and the “Cranes” on the other.
3) The game begins with every player from each team putting one of their feet on the center line.
4) The teacher then calls out either “Crows”, “Cranes” or and other word that begins with “CR”
5) If “Crows” is called…the “Crows” chase the “Cranes” as the “Cranes try to get back behind their “Safe Zone” before they are tagged by a “Crane”. If they are tagged, the “Crane” would then become a “Crow” and go to the “Crow’s” team.
6) If “Cranes” are called, the same format is followed as above.
7) The teacher may try to fool the students by yelling out other “CR” words. If one of these words are called…nothing happens but the kids get a good laugh.
