Your new favorite PE game! It is called Island Ball! Try to get your entire team from your side to your opponents side by joining your teammates on the island! But don’t fall off the island once you make it, you will have to go back to your side and try again! Once your whole team is on the other side and on the islands, you win! Then play again! This is a great game to work on catching and throwing. It’s great for communication and teamwork! You can change the number of balls you use, the number of mats (islands) you play with to make things easier or more difficult. You can change the distance or position of the mats to make it easier or more difficult. So many variations to ensure everyone can play with success! Before the game begins, teams will send players to be “catchers” on the “islands” of the opponent’s side. When the game begins, players will run to grab a ball. They cannot cross the midline to get a ball, they must find one on their own side. Then they will need to toss it to a teammate on the island and the teammate will need to successfully catch the ball out of the air for them to join their teammate there. Once on the island, they will also be able to catch the ball to get more teammates over. You must go to the island where someone caught your ball. Don’t get too many people on the island, you may fall off! If you fall off the island, you will need to return to your side and make it over again! The first team to get all their players to one side is the winner! This game works well for 3rd grade through 8th grade! It is an enjoyable game where many will find their role! Will the be a catcher, a guard, or someone who is trying to get over to the islands from the start? It is an awesome team game and involves lots of communication. Calling on someone to throw the ball, calling on someone to catch the ball, when to take a risk and leave as a guard to make it over so your team can win the game. This game is AMAZING for a small gym with LARGE student populations. Don’t have mats? set up cone areas, or tape outlines to make the islands. Don’t have dodgeballs? use other soft ball / easy to catch balls instead. You got this! Enjoy this activity and have fun! Your students definitely will! #physicaleducation #pegames #peteacher For more videos and activity ideas like this, keep checking in with us and SUBSCRIBE! @PELearnPlay
