Zone Floor Hockey

This is a culminating event/game, after students have had several lessons on how to properly hold a hockey stick, stick/puck handling and have played 3 on 3 games.

I use the volleyball and basketball court lines to create zones that the students have to stay in while playing.  Every two minutes the students rotate positions, so that they are getting experience at both offense and defense.  The zones not only help keep the students spread out and help with safety, but they also force the students to learn how to pass.

I spend a lot of time and put much emphasis on safety!!!  Students must keep their sticks below their waist or they are not allowed to play.

I introduce the game in 3rd grade.  This allows the students to become familiar with the zones, so that in 4th and 5th grade we are able to spend less time teaching zones and more time playing.
