Every year for Halloween, my co-teacher and I decorate our gym for PE class. The students love it and start asking about the “Haunted Gym” on the first day of school!
All of the decorations are either from our homes or donated from families who live in town. A good idea is to hit up the Halloween stores the day after Halloween to get great deals on decorations! The set up takes a few hours after school. The highlights are the 6 foot Frankenstein, Dracula rising from his coffin, the projection of spooky images and of course the Haunted House!
Since this is still PE class, the students will be moving and not just looking at the cool decorations. There are six stations set up in the gym that the students will rotate around to. 1. Rope Climb 2. Roller Racers 3. Nok Hockey (Dracula’s station) 4. Obstacle Course 5. Haunted Gym 6. 4 Square. As the students are participating in the stations, we play Halloween music on the ION Speaker.
Station 1: The Ropes. We decorate 2 of the 4 ropes with spider webs and plastic spiders.
Station 2: Roller Racers through the graveyard. We set up a course for the students to navigate the roller racers around the foam headstones. Inside of the basketball hoop we put a large ghoul decoration. Students love riding under it.
Station 3: Nok Hockey. Your basic Nok Hockey games, except you have Dracula rising behind you as play!
Station: 4: Obstacle Course: Consists of hula hoops, steps, & cones. On the stage, I set up my small projector that has haunted images already uploaded onto it. I attached the screen to the stage curtain with clips.
Station 5: Haunted House. We set up four folding tables and put a large parachute over the top of it. The Haunted House inflatable goes in the front and inside has a large Pumpkin Man to greet you, Halloween lights, small decorations, and gym mats for the students to crawl on.
Station 6: 4 Squares. I have to create a court using floor tape.
Good Luck and Happy Halloween!
