This game is aerobic, reinforces throwing, and incorporates math skills. The students practice throwing recycled paper or foam balls into an oversized trash can (which is made out of mats). Prior to playing this game, the students have been taught the four steps of throwing: Turn your body sideways towards the target, put your arm in an ‘L’, feet together, step and throw. There are several students (Oscar the Grouches) in the “trashcan” who are trying to litter the streets. All the people who live in the neighborhood are cleaning up the litter and throwing it in the trashcan. When the whistle blows, all of the students grab a piece of trash, unfold it, and find the math problem that correlates with their answer. These problems are placed on cones around the perimeter of the gym. New students go into the trashcan and we continue the game until all students have had a chance to be Oscar. For lower grades, students can practice colors by using colored foam balls. Older classes like the foam balls
