Hello PE fans!
Set up your room with about 12 hoops scattered apart from one another and 12 pins with fitness activities on the bottom of them throughout your space. It is important to spread them far from one another because the students will use them as stationary targets to roll or gently underhand toss towards. The video only shoes 6 hoops and 4 pins for demonstration purposes. You may choose to use other targets of various sizes and different sizes/textures of balls for your class. Please modify to fit your classroom accordingly.
How to play:
Have students perform locomotor skills around the space while carrying a ball. A yarn ball or slightly deflated smaller balls work well because they don’t roll very far. When music stops, have students choose a nearby hoop or pin to roll towards. The object is to try and roll ball into a hoop OR roll a ball to bump over a pin.
We always try to incorporate fitness into our lessons so we taped fitness activities to perform in the underside of each pin in addition to providing students with a dot on each pin to have a target on the pin itself to roll towards. We have also included motiovational messages ont he pins such as YOU CAN DO IT! or ALWAYS TRY YOUR BEST!
The game can be used as a pre or post-assessment for the underhand throwing/rolling pattern.
