You are taking a once in a lifetime ocean cruise to the Caribbean Sea through the mysterious Bermuda Traingle. Out of nowhere a hurricane develops and produces gigantic waves that quickly spill into the ship. The weight of the water is starting to cause the ship to sink. You must hurry as a group to rescue everyone on the ship to the safety of the shoreline. Use the lifeboats and floating debris to help the stranded travelers.
3rd 4th and 5th grades.
Equipment: 2 mats for lifeboats, 1 balance beam for the floating log, 2 scooters, 2 ropes, 2 bases, 2 folded mats (one to be the sinking ship the other for the shoreline.)
Starting Position: everyone starts in the sinking ship. All floating debris must start on the sinking ship. I usually use 3 sinking ships to have 3 teams playing at the same time.
Challenge: The task is completed when rescuing everyone from the sinking ship to the shoreline on the other side of the gym.
Rules: 1. If a group member touches the floor the entire group must fo back to the skinking ship and start all over. 2. Lifeboats can only hold 4 people at one time or else it will sink and the team must start over. 3. Can not walk on rope. 4. Only 2 people can be on the floating log or else it will sink and the team must start over. 5. No standing on scooters like skateboards. 6. Can not unfold the mats that are representing the lifeboats.
Levels: If a team can complete the challenge then add different levels such as trying to make it across without talking, or eliminating the bases or one of each floating debris. Whatever you think it will take to challenge them differently to make it across if they are successful.
