For this pacer test alternative, we pair students up in partners. One partner runs down and back and then the next partner goes. They keep doing this. They are allowed their 2 misses as a person not a group. When they have their second miss or can’t go anymore, they can drop out. Their partner may choose to stay in the race for them but must carry all the weight at this point. We group kids according to ability level on their normal pacer run for example a kid running over 80 with a kid that runs over 30 etc. We also create some groups of 3 if there is somebody that has a very low ability level. This will give them more time during their break to rest and this is also how we organize classes with odd numbers.
