I found a free bowling curriculum to download off the Internet at Bowlersed.com. I created my bowling unit using this curriculum. This video demonstrates a culminating bowling activity that I do with my 3rd -5th grade students. The first half of lesson 1 & 2 I taught the students how to score bowling. Lesson 1 focused on the basic scoring tenants. Lesson 2 focused on how you score bonus points from spares or strikes. The second half of lesson 1 & 2 they learned and practiced how to hold the bowling ball and take a 4 step approach on the delivery. The video is on lesson 3, which demonstrates how the game works. Each student has a job: bowler, pinsetter, ball retriever, & “rester”. I also allow 1st and 2nd grade to bowl. However, they do not keep score and they use foam bowling balls.
