The first grade students worked with the teacher to create movement patterns to the rhythms and phrases in the music. Repetition helped the students to remember the actions. The students applied the skills of jumping and landing, twisting and turning and traveling practiced in class to the movement motifs selected. The theme and variation in the music provided the structure for movement phrases and sequences. The dance evolved through the creative process. The product was performed at the St. Mary’s Academy Lower School Primary Dance Assembly. The students enjoyed working together as a team to produce a thrilling original dance for performance. You can see the music in the movement and experience the Magic of Dance in the students actions and gestures. Their communication of sheer joy in moving is evident. This is a real work out for the six and seven year olds!
