Crossfire
Objective: A team must knock down all of the bowling pins on their opponents
side of the gym.
Equipment: Bowling Pins and Gator balls (made w/ sponge with soft covering)
Set-Up:
1) Each team will have half of the gym
2) Each team will receive an equal number of bowling pins
3) Each team will set-up their pins anywhere on their side of the gym
within the basketball court boundaries (if available)
4) The area behind the baseline (of the basketball court) is the “JAIL”
Rules:
1) After the bowling pins have been set-up, each team will be given an equal number of balls
2) On the signal, the game will begin….
3) A player will go to JAIL if:
a. They are hit below the waist with a thrown ball by an opponent from their side of the gym (not JAIL)
b. The ball that a student throws is caught by an opposing player.
4) Once a player is in JAIL:
a. They are still allowed to throw or toss a ball and knock down an opponent’s bowling pins
b. They CANNOT get an opposing player “out”
c. They can use any ball that rolls into JAIL
5) A person may be freed from JAIL when they catch a thrown ball, in the air, from their teammate
6) If all of the players of a team have been eliminated and are in JAIL, the game goes on. The teacher then does a 10 second count after which time ALL of the students in JAIL are released and return to their side of the gym.
NOTE: Safety is the most important thing. It is important to remind the
students that the object is to knock down their opponents pins
NOT get their opponents OUT….getting their opponents OUT is
actually something they do not want to do because it will allow
their opponents to attack them from both sides.
