This is a modification of the game “lightning” in basketball. I do not like the idea of having kids sit out, so I created a way to be “out”, but still in. I have 10 baskets (each at a different height) with 2 blue lines at each basket. Each group (blue line) gets a basketball…I like to give a small ball to one group and a big ball to the other…gets kids to use different amounts of force. Both kids start shooting on a given signal…ready, set, go… and they play until one person makes it. The player that makes it, stays at that basket, the player that lost the “friendly competition” is out of that game, but moves to join the next game clockwise. You can either have the winning player go again (king or queen of the basket), or have them stay at that basket, but go to the end of the line. If a player ever wins a game and is left at a basket by himself/herself, they just practice their shot until a player moves to challenge them. If a player loses the game and moves to a game that is already pretty full, they have the option to move to a game with less players.
