The Sock Hop is something our students and families love! We have it every year, and I try to use different songs every time! I went to a Thrift Store and bought 45 rpm records….one for each student, for props. Here is my song list. I keep the movements very simple and as you saw, I have the students “shout out” parts to make it more fun! The students are learning social skills and learning how to work with a partner and of course they leave sweaty because they are moving so much!
Here is my playlist for last school year:
- At the Hop – Danny & the Juniors
- Old Time Rock n Roll – Bob Seger
- All Shook Up – Elvis Presley
- Wimoweh
- Do Wop Dancing – cd – Elvis Presleys
- Twist
As you can see, I always invite 5th grade boys to dress up as Elvis and come in and do one of the songs. It is a privelege for them, and usually about 3 or 4 agree to it! So fun!
