This just happened yesterday only after being in school for a week and a half! It is my kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders doing “The Git Up”dance that I made up! They did it at our pep rally yesterday, and they were SO cute!
Here is the link to “The Git Up” Dance on YouTube:
The song came out in May, 2019
Here are the movements that I made up for 5k – 2nd graders.
Get everyone into partners.
Introduction, beginning with “right now”: kick and clap above your head, with some attitude!
This is the CHORUS: Gon’ and do the Two step then cowboy boogie – have children pretend they are riding a horse Grab your sweetheart and spin out with ’em – one partner swings the other Do the hoedown and get into it (whoo, whoo, whoo) – big arms pushing up and down and march in place with high knees Take it to the left now and dip with it – step left and jumping jack, Gon’ throw down, take a sip with it – then right and jumping jack Now lean back, put your hips in it – lean back, look up and roll your arms with attitude
Next lyrics: self explanitory. To the left, to the left now (to the left, to the left)
To the right to the right (to the right). (put your arms up when you do this)
Now take your left hand and put it on your side (put it on your side)
Go on, roll your shoulders (roll your shoulders)
Do the slip and slide (do the slip and slide)
This next part’s my favorite part ’cause it’s time to shine
CHORUS
Slide to the left (left), slide to the right (right)
Now cool down, have a good time
Slide to the left, slide to the right
Do the butterfly and have a good time
‘Round, ’round, ’round and ’round you go
It’s time to show out right now and take it to the floor!!! – They quickly get down in push up position…
Next instead of chorus they do 6 pushups to the cadence of down and 1! down and 2! then I tell them to “get on up, get on up.”
Next part – “take it down” is the twist down with big arms then twist up and follow the directions of the lyrics!
Then, I tell the students, “GO CRAZY! They do whatever they want but not on the floor as they are too close to ea. other and I don’t want someone to trip on someone else.
THIS WENT OVER GREAT!
