What do you do on the first day of PE classes? More than likely students have already sat through rules and procedures in their regular ed classrooms. How do you make it fun and active for the students?

I normally spend the first two classes of the year going over rules/routines/procedures. I might do an icebreaker activity (place everyone in a circle and pass a ball around, whoever has the ball has to state one physical activity they did this summer) or a game at the end just so they won't have to sit down the whole time

Their is a website where you can purchase great activity books, look on www.funpeguy.com, or email funpeguy@gmail.com, or Facebook: www.facebook.com/funpeguy. I went to one of his workshops and the activities were AMAZING and appropriate for all ages, you got to check it out.

I have my rules, classroom drills (fire, tornado & lock down), expectations etc... All on a powerpoint that I project on the screen. It takes about ten minutes or so to go through everything and it has fun graphics and sounds. There is usually always time after to play a game.
